Rubber gasket press-in and camera inspection station

The end client of the project was United Polymers.

The semi-automatic press-in and inspection station was tasked to replace the lengthy and complicated procedure of manual insertion of the rubber gasket into the groove-shaped taillights’ lid.

The procedure is as follows:

  • Operator places gaskets onto the pins
  • Operator places lids into the machine’s seating

Automatic cycle commences after the safety doors close:

  • Gaskets are stretched by the movement of pins into the desired shape
  • They are inserted into the mould and relocated to the rear of the machine
  • Lids also relocated to the rear of the machine where the gaskets are inserted using the moulding tool
  • Following return to default position, all gaskets are checked by a camera to establish for twisting or incomplete press-in
  • Following inspection, the safety doors are opened and the operator removes the lids with pressed-in gaskets

The machine is designed to meet the requirements for quantity per unit of time; consequently, four gaskets are pressed-in simultaneously.

The single-purpose machine is equipped with a PLC, display, camera and pneumatic connection. Pneumatic actuators provide all motion.
